New Zealand Derby winner Gingernuts (NZ) (Iffraaj) showed his dominance of the New Zealand three-year-old ranks in recent times was no fluke with a commanding performance in the Group One Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday.

Sydney's weather provided testing conditions for one of Australia's biggest days of racing, Golden Slipper Day, but that didn't hinder Gingernuts and his band of supporters as he dealt to his rivals with a two-and-three-quarter length victory taking his earnings to just under a million dollars from only 8 starts.

Gingernuts became the second Australian Group One winner for his sire Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic) who had been so well represented in Australia by the recently retired multiple Group One winner, Turn Me Loose (NZ).

Haunui Farm's Mark Chitty says, "It's great for our industry to have not only another New Zealand bred but also New Zealand trained horse take out the Rosehill Guineas. Breeding Classic horses is what we’re good at and Gingernuts is just another prime example.

“To put three Group races together in a row is testament to his ability and the way he has been prepared and handled by the Te Akau team and by all accounts, there is still more to come.

“Iffraaj has enjoyed a fantastic run with his current crop of three-year-olds which has produced everything from a Karaka Million winner to a Derby winner and now Group One winner in Australia. If Gingernuts can add the Australian Derby it will be the icing on the cake.”

Iffraaj returns to Haunui Farm in 2017 and will serve a limited book of 100 mares. To book a nomination or for more information, please be in touch with Mark or Shannon. Mark – 021 663 995, Shannon – 0212 855 513.
