Racing is beginning to heat up on both sides of the Tasman and whilst the weather isn't playing it's part in New Zealand at the present time, feature racing is still firmly on the agenda with Hawke's Bay currently in the limelight with longer range plans honing in on Riccarton in November.

With plenty of feature racing ahead of us, it was nice to get some early points on the board this week at Wanganui as Socially Excited (NZ) (Falkirk) landed blacktype at his first attempt when finishing third in the Listed Wanganui Guineas (1340m) for the stable of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman and undoubtedly, his happy group of owners.

Mr consistency, Socially Excited has never finished further back than third in his seven race day starts to date and he continues a nice run of success for part-owner Emma Evans, a longtime Haunui client along with her late husband, Mick.

Another of the Evans racing team to the fore of late is four-year-old mare Deals In Heels (NZ) (Iffraaj) who has won three out of four so far and resumed this season with an impressive first-up win on the opening day at Hawke's Bay whilst at Ruakaka in early September, Watch This Space (NZ) (Elusive City) landed win number six taking his career earnings to just under the $200,000 mark.

"Emma has been a great client of Haunui and she has been a fantastic breeder," said Mark Chitty of Haunui Farm. "She's an avid racing enthusiast and so was Mick and it's great to see the horses really performing over the last few months," he said. "Deals In Heels looks pretty exciting so here's hoping there is more blacktype on the horizon."
