Two New Stakes Winners for Lope de Vega
09 June 2017
Since the announcement that Belardo (Ire) (Lope de Vega) will be joining the Haunui Farm stallion roster in 2017, his sire Lope de Vega (Ire) (Shamardal) has enjoyed a great run of success with the Group One win of Vega Magic (Aus) in the Goodwood last month and this week, two further stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere to take his tally to 26.
With Classic racing a major focus of the Northern Hemisphere summer at the present time, three-year-olds Grandee (Ire) (Lope de Vega) and Paviz (Ire) (Lope de Vega) became stakes winners number 25 and 26 respectively for their sire with Grandee taking out the Listed King George V Cup at Leopardstown over 1m4f (2400m) and Paviz victorious in Germany’s Derby Trial equivalent, the Listed Grosser Preis der Hannoverschen Volksbank over 1m 3f (2200m) in Hanover.
Belardo holds the honour of being Lope de Vega’s very first stakes winner with his victory in the Listed Newbury Washington Singer Stakes (7f) in August 2014 and took the mantle of first Group One winner with his victory in the Dewhurst Stakes (7f) two months later. From just four crops of racing age, Lope de Vega has left a further three Group One winners in Jemayal (Ire) – Deauville Prix Saint-Alary (1m2f) – The Right Man – Meydan Al Quoz Sprint (6f) – and, Vega Magic – SAJC Goodwood Stakes (1200m).
A recent article featured in the Breednet website has asked the question “So You Want to Breed a Serious Horse?” The article raises some very interesting points in regard to the one dimensional racehorse and as such stallion. You can view the article by clicking here
In reviewing Lope de Vega’s list of 26 stakes winners, there is nothing one dimensional about it. A Classic performer himself, Lope de Vega has left stakes winners from 5f (1000m) – 14f (2800m) with Group One winners from 1200m – 2000m. He’s left six stakes winners at a mile including Belardo whose Group One victory at four came in the Lockinge Stakes (1m), and a further nine have won at a mile plus.Belardo will stand at Haunui Farm in 2017 for a fee of $12,000 + GST. A Group One winner at two and four and, the only stallion retired to stud in New Zealand this year to have performed at Group One level in each of his racing seasons, he proved his versatility on the track winning from 6f to a mile. We’re sure he will prove his versatility from the serving barn too. For more information or, to make a booking, please call Mark – 021 663 995 – or Shannon – 0212 855 513.
