Ego is a graded stakes winning sprinter, by Mr. Prospector’s brilliant son, E Dubai. His dam, a daughter of Redoute’s Choice, is from the Denise’s Joy family that has produced such as Thorn Park, Joie Denise, Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy, More Joyous and Bentley Biscuit.
Ego is a product of the Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, as are such world-class sires as Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, Empire Maker and Speightstown. Horses bred on this cross have frequently done well when bred back over Northern Dancer line mares. E Dubai himself has also done extremely well with mares from the Northern Dancer line, giving numerous potentially beneficial crosses.
E Dubai has a multiple graded stakes winner out of a mare by Northern Dancer son, Dixieland Band, and graded winner Dubai Belle out of a mare by Dixieland Band’s son, Stark South. E Dubai’s graded stakes winning and grade one performing daughter My Gi Gi is out of a mare by Northern Dancer son, Sadler’s Wells, who could be introduced through Montjeu, Victory Dance, Singspiel, Barathea, King of Kings, Carnegie, Scenic (sire of Blevic), Entrepreneur and King’s Theatre. It is also worth considering Fairy King, the brother to Sadler’s Wells, who could be introduced through Encosta de Lago, Helissio, Falbrav and Shinko King. E Dubai also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Sadler’s Wells’ three-quarters brother, Nureyev, sire of Peintre Celebre, Stravinsky, Fasliyev and Spinning World (who gives linebreeding to the family of Redoute’s Choice). Spinning World is particularly interesting through Thorn Park, a mating that gives a duplication of the family of both Redoute’s Choice and Ego himself.
E Dubai has stakes winners out of mares descending from Northern Dancer’s son, Nijinsky II, via Sky Classic and Greinton (sire of Senor Pete). This strain might also be brought in through Whiskey Road, Caerleon (sire of Generous, Bletchley Park, Tenby and Alquoz), and Royal Academy (sire of Bel Esprit). Storm Bird is closely related to Nijinsky II, and E Dubai has sired graded winner Dubious Miss out of a mare by Storm Bird grandson, Mountain Cat (by Storm Cat) and also has a stakes winner out of a mare by the Storm Cat horse Tabasco Cat. Other sources of Storm Cat include Hennessy, Johannesburg, High Yield, Black Minnaloushe, Giant’s Causeway, Tale of the Cat, Catrail, Statue of Liberty, Felix the Cat and Falkirk. It could also be worth introducing Storm Bird through Bluebird (sire of Blues Traveller, Dolphin Street and Lake Coniston) and Summer Squall (sire of Postponed). This also suggests trying The Minstrel – a three-quarters brother to Nijinsky II and a close relative to Storm Bird – and he is sire of Masterclass (from the family of Redoute’s Choice), Chem , Bakharoff and Palace Music (sire of Naturalism). Night Shift and Vice Regent also have pedigree similarities to Storm Bird and The Minstrel, and E Dubai has graded stakes winner Skysurfers out of a mare by Night Shift (sire of Align). Vice Regent can be sourced through Archregent, New Regent, Regal Classic and Dehere.
Ego is one of four stakes winners sired by E Dubai out of mares by Danzig line stallions, and crossing Ego back over stallions from this line could pay dividends. In addition to Ego, the E Dubai stakes winners bred on the cross are out of mares by Pine Bluff, Dayjur and Langfuhr. Other Danzig sources to consider are Green Desert (sire of Volksraad, Cape Cross, Desert Sun and Invincible Spirit), Anabaa, Belong to Me, Chief’s Crown (sire of Grand Lodge and Istidaad), Agnes World, Elnadim, Bertolini, Honor Grades, Maroof and Perugino.
It might also be worth testing Northern Dancer through Try My Best, who is from the family of Redoute’s Choice, and who is available through Last Tycoon (who gives linebreeding to the family of Redoute’s Choice, and is sire of O’Reilly, Marju, Monde Bleu, Bigstone, Towkay, Iglesia; and grandsire of Written Tycoon). El Gran Senor, a brother to Try My Best is sire of Al Hareb.
Out of a mare from the Roberto line, E Dubai has sired a stakes winner from a daughter of Mister Baileys (by Robellino). The Roberto strain might also be brought in through Touching Wood, Casual Lies, At Talaq, Prized, Red Ransom, Domesday (from the family of Redoute’s Choice), Charge Forward, Ekraar and Handsome Ransom.
From the Damascus line, E Dubai has sired multiple graded stakes winner High Heels out of a mare by Gilded Time, and a stakes winner out of a mare by that horse’s sire, Timeless Moment. E Dubai’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) hero, Fort Larned, and his Champion Three-Year-Old Once More Dubai, are both out of mares by Broad Brush, a son of Ack Ack, a horse represented in New Zealand by Epidaurus. His multiple graded stakes winner Desert Code is out of a mare Lost Code, whose dam is by Ack Ack.
From the Bold Ruler line, E Dubai has a stakes winner out of a mare by Yes It’s True (by Is It True), and a graded winner out of a mare by Spectacular Bid (sire of Spectacular Love, Spectacular Spy and Bite the Bullet). He also has graded stakes winner Accredit out of a mare by Montbrook (from the Buckpasser line) and a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Drouilly (by Mill Reef, who could be brought in through Manntari, Oak Ridge and Zerpour). Riverman is a close relative to Mill Reef, and he could be brought in through Sandtrap (by Irish River).
