Haunui Farm stalwart IFFRAAJ (GB) (Zafonic) looks to have every chance of bagging his second Karaka Million with unbeaten filly Millefiori set to take her place in the field on Saturday after another impressive and professional win.
Racing in the Te Akau tangerine, she has been perfectly placed under the guidance of Jamie Richards, gaining some all-important Ellerslie experience when winning there on debut at the end of November and on Friday she showed she is well on track to contest New Zealand’s richest 2YO contest with another impressive performance.
Joining Millefiori in the field on Saturday will be AVONALLO (NZ) (Belardo), who became his sire’s first stakes winner in New Zealand when taking out the Listed Welcome Stakes in the middle of November. After a little let-up the colt then contested the G2 Eclipse Stakes with no trial in preparation, with trainer Jamie Richards stating after the race he felt there was plenty of improvement to come in the lead-up to Saturday’s contest.
BELARDO (IRE) (Lope de Vega) has made a flying start to his career in both hemispheres with five stakes winners to date, and taking out the Karaka Million as a freshman sire would provide the ultimate result for our exciting young sire.
IFFRAAJ and BELARDO will be well represented at Karaka 2021 with 31 and 30 yearlings respectively.
