Kapalua Sunset on Path to Oaks

Haunui Farm graduate Kapalua Sunset (NZ) (Tavistock) couldn't have been more impressive yesterday with an 8-length demolition of her opposition at her second start.  It might have been a Tuesday and it might have been at Kyneton but the Danny O'Brien trained filly certainly signalled her staying prowess and with daylight between her and her rivals, it would be safe to assume her next start is likely to be at a metropolitan venue.

Bred by Haunui Bloodstock and GSA Bloodstock (Jonathan Munz), Kapalua Sunset was meant to go through the sale ring at the Sydney Easter Sale last year however, COVID put paid to that and she remained in New Zealand for the virtual sale.  Initially passed in, the filly was later snapped up by Danny O'Brien and off the back of yesterday's performance, she could certainly turn out to be a very astute buy at $150,000.

In-form rider Brett Prebble commented after the race, "She is way better than that sort of class. It was a nice stepping stone and a soft kill.  She dropped the head nicely and they were just dropping like flies. She just outstayed them and she is a smart filly going towards the Oaks."

Kapalua Sunset is the fourth foal out of multiple Group winner FULL OF SPIRIT (Aus) (Flying Spur) who herself ran 4th in the G1 ATC Australian Oaks.  She is set to be served by WOOTTON BASSET this season.
