Ribchester 2YO Impresses at Juddmonte Meeting

Overnight racing in the UK featured the G1 Juddmonte International meeting at York and the final event on the card saw another impressive victory for 2YO Flaming Rib (IRE) (Ribchester) taking his tally to three wins to date having won his last two on the trot.

Part-owned by English football legend, Michael Owen, the future looks bright for the exciting colt by Champion Miler and 4-time G1 winner, RIBCHESTER (IRE) (Iffraaj). Michael Owen said to mirror.co.uk after the race, “Flaming Rib is a tough horse. He was the one we fancied most of our three runners but in a big field like that, a competitive field at a meeting like this, you can never be confident, but he has put in a really tough performance.

“It was great to win at York. My local track is Chester but when you have a nice horse you have to venture away from your home track. This is one of the highlights of the racing year so it’s great to get one on the board.”

Flaming Rib is one of 9 first crop winners for RIBCHESTER in the Northern Hemisphere to date with most of those winners coming before he’d stepped foot on the track himself. A late summer/Autumn 2YO himself, RIBCHESTER’s first start was in early July and his three 2YO starts culminated in victory in the G2 Mill Reef Stakes in mid-September, having finished runner-up in the G2 Gimcrack Stakes at his previous start.  With that in mind, the next few months in the Northern Hemisphere could prove very fruitful.

RIBCHESTER arrived safely back at Haunui Farm on Friday in preparation for his fourth Southern Hemisphere season, his second at Haunui. One of the best-credentialled stallions to stand at stud in New Zealand – Champion Miler of Europe twice, 4-time G1 winner, Timeform 129 – we’re excited to see the emergence of his first Southern Hemisphere 2YO’s over the coming months.

At a fee of $15,000 + GST, RIBCHESTER represents outstanding value for breeders. For more information, call Mark – 021 663 995 or Shannon – 0212 855 513.
